Secure client side encrypted backups

Designed secure
Engineered for speed

Get started

The digital safe deposit box

Your files stay private, only you know what is backed up.

Download the CLI client

Download the client (command line only) and try free for 30 days

Backup your data

Create client side encrypted backups

Schedule backups

Automatically backup your data as often as you like

Full client side encryption

File names, file data and meta data are always encrypted using 256 bit encryption on your device.

Files are encrypted in the client

No unencrypted data leaves the client; we don't know the names of your files or how many are backed up.

Secure transmission

Mandatory request signatures with a pre shared secret

Encrypted at rest

Our remote storage encrypts data a second time using a different key

Fast backups

The client is able to backup at over 400MB/s (on modern hardware), but will also only backup changes resulting in almost instant backups if nothing has changed.

Below is an example of typical backup times

Initial backup

3min 10s

Next backup

1s

Next backup (+200MB of additional data)

1.5s

Next backup

1s

Fast backups are important. If they are slow and resource intensive you are less likely to create backups often.

Encryption Keys

Encryption keys are generated locally in the client and protected with your passphrase, so it's impossible for anyone but yourself to access the data. See the docs for additional details.

Efficient storage

The backup client is able to detect duplicate data at the block level, which means that a renamed file or modified large file result in minimal data transfer and reduced storage requirements.

Rename files

You can move, rename or duplicate files and it won't store the data twice

Modify large files

You can modify large files and only the sections you edit require transferring

Deduplication

Data blocks present in multiple files are only stored once

Snapshots

Each backup archive is like a snapshot of your files which by default are never deleted. Thanks to deduplication each archive only needs to store the changes.

This can give you protection against ransomware and allow you to restore previous or deleted files that are contained in older snapshots.

Older archives can be deleted based on lifecycle rules, freeing up space.

Remote Storage

By default the client stores data inside a folder as a series of binary files. Making it suitable for backing up to external media or a cloud storage provider.

We also offer a hosted storage plan referred to as remote storage where the client side encrypted data is streamed directly to our storage servers.

Redundant storage

We store at least 3 copies of your encrypted backup data for added reliability

No restore fees

Restore data anytime at no additional cost

Backup notifications

Get automated alerts when your backups are not running

Safe on insecure networks

When using our remote storage you are able to backup securely over an insecure / secure connection that has been MitM. This is because only authenticated encrypted data leaves the client that the server can authenticate with a pre shared secret.

Client encrypts data

Every request is signed with a pre shared secret

MITM

Server authenticates data

Server enforces request signatures

What we can't do

Since your data is encrypted client side with keys only you have access to, it's impossible for us to provide some features.

Browse files online

Only a client with your secrets can view files inside a backup

Share files

You can't create a link to share a file(s) in your backup

Have support reset your encryption passphrase

If you lose your passphrase / key we can't recover it, you must make a new backup
